40th Anniversary Churchill Dinner
The Churchill Annual Dinner on Friday night 29 July was a really great event - a Queensland and possibly a national attendance record of 219 people.
The venue at Parliament House was first class, the decor and setting superb and the service excellent. Most attendees were amazed at the quality and standard of the food and the ample supply of drinks.
One of the highlights of the evening (and there were many) was the performance of our three (3) Churchill Fellow musicians, Gwyn Roberts, Warwick Adeney and Piers Lane. Piers is our very own world renowned concert pianist who just happened to be visiting Queensland from his base in London. It was a performance not to be missed.
The Governor Ms Quentin Bryce AC presented the Churchill Medallions to the 8 recipients and the 15 New Fellows showed us their public speaking skills and class indicating the obvious high quality of applicants this year.
A special presentation was made to the Five (5) First Year Fellows from 1966 and Justice Margaret White launched 'Shared Visions' an oral history of Brian Wilson, edited by Aladin Rahemtula. It is an excellent read and on sale for $22.00.
Two of the Sponsors of Churchill Fellowships were also in attendance being Bob Prickett of the Bob & June Prickett Fellowship and Meg Byers and family representing the Bruce Byers Fellowship as well as Nadine Phillips representing Qantas.
Mr Bill Park, WCMT Patron and Ms Meg Martin representing the CEO of the Trust in Canberra also attended.
All in all a great night. Thanks to all who supported the dinner and to those who couldn't be there, we hope to see you at another CFAQ function.
